Chatham Kent Hog Farm

Hog Manure Treatment: Chatham Kent Hog Farm

Challenge:

A hog farm in Steinback, Manitoba was struggling with an overloaded 1.2 million-gallon lagoon. Over time, a thick layer of “cemented” sludge had formed at the bottom, severely limiting its functionality and making pumping difficult. Additionally, strong odors were causing issues for neighboring properties.

SciCorp Treatment Plan & Execution:

  • Dosage: BIOLOGIC™ SEPTIC was applied at a rate of 50ppm.
  • Application Method: The product was mixed with water (100 parts water to 1 part SR2) and sprayed over the lagoon surface six weeks before the scheduled pump-out.
  • Success:Six weeks after treatment, the lagoon was pumped out, and the once cemented bottom sludge had broken up, allowing an additional 250,000 gallons of pumpable sludge to be recovered. Key benefits included:
  • Significant odor reduction in the lagoon and surrounding areas.4
  • The surface layer of solids disappeared, enhancing lagoon functionality.

Testimonial:

Steve Gallop, a 19-year industry veteran, shared his experience:
“After applying SR2 to one of our oldest lagoons, the results were incredible. Instead of finding hard, cement-like solids, there were huge craters where the solids had been digested, some up to 6 feet across and 2 feet deep. This application probably recovered up to 250,000 gallons of storage, and the odor reduction was impressive.”

Long-Term Benefits:

  • Improved lagoon capacity, extending its lifespan.
  • Significant reduction in odors, creating a better environment for workers and neighbors.
  • Reduced long-term maintenance costs associated with dredging.

How This Benefits Your Septic System:

BIOLOGIC™ SEPTIC can similarly prevent sludge buildup in your home septic tank, reduce odors, and improve waste breakdown, leading to fewer pump-outs and long-term system health.
