Industrial Wastewater Treatment - Poultry Processing: Maple Lodge Farms
Challenge:
Maple Lodge Farms, Canada’s largest poultry processing plant, was struggling with wastewater plant overloads, sludge buildup, odor issues, and high operating costs. Frequent plant upsets, particularly due to varying weekday and weekend loads, were causing inefficiencies. Odors from the treatment system and lagoons were also disrupting the nearby community.
Treatment Plan:
SciCorp engineers developed a treatment strategy involving the application of a shock dose of BIOLOGIC™ SEPTIC over the aerated and settling lagoons, followed by ongoing dosing via a metering pump based on flow rates and wastewater loading.
Results:
- 24% increase in treatment capacity without plant upsets
- 22% reduction in aeration energy costs
- 26% reduction in sludge generation
- 25% reduction in polymer used for sludge dewatering
- Complete elimination of odors and improved removal of BOD, COD, TSS, and Ptot
Problems Avoided:
- Plant overloads and capacity limits on production
- Neighbor odor complaints
- High aeration and sludge disposal costs
How This Benefits Your Septic System:
BIOLOGIC™ SEPTIC can optimize your septic system, reducing odors, sludge buildup, and overall operating costs, resulting in fewer pump-outs and more efficient performance.
